139. Samuel Chamberlain, (American, 1895-1975)

"Manhattan Twilight" 32/100, etching with mezzotint, signed in pencil, ca. 1932, matted and framed, 13-5/16"h., 9-1/2"w. This print was made in an edition of 100 plus 14 working proofs. The plate was lost during WWII. It is Chamberlain's only recorded night scene. Published in "the Prints of Samuel Chamberlain N.A." by Narcissa Gallatly Chamberlain and Jane Field Kingsland. Boston Public Library, 1984. cat no. 111.

About 1/2 of the edition had problems due to moulds in the glue used in the chine applique. It is said to be risky to attempt restoration.
