| 498. A Caucasian Sewan Kazak Carpet, 19th Century
The central field woven with four shield medallions inside a conforming shape with half-feather motifs around the border, each medallion centered by a cross with hooked ends, all in a field of various hook motifs, flowers, diamonds, birds, and cats, inside a border of continuous geometric patterning, all in pale red, soft green, creme creme, blue, and hints of yellow. Wool pile on wool warp. 64" x 106".
Note: This carpet was made with all natural dyes, which contribute to the softness in hues and make the overall color combination very pleasing to the eye.
