500. A Turkish Yoruk Carpet, 19th Century

The central field divided into three rectangular fields, the two end fields centered by diamonds with stepped edges, the middle rectangle centered by a stylized Greek cross. The areas around the large medallions are woven with small hook motifs, rosettes, and stylized Greek cross motifs, all inside a primary border of star and cross motifs, in red, teal, brown, orange, creme, and navy. Wool pile on wool warp. 56" x 84".

Note: Due to the fine weave and extremely good quality wool used, this carpet has retained rich color and excellent pile relative to age.

1,500/3,000

Condition: slight wear to warp ends, spots in center rectangle where pile is worn to knot collar, two major linear repairs which have caused slight warping to overall shape.
