"Leger threw himself into studies for La ville with great enthusiasm, going around Paris and drawing from life in view of various illustrations for this book which was never to be completed. It was to have a text by his old comrade Blaise Cendrars...
"What Leger left as studies for La ville were a number of gouaches and drawings, from which 29 were selected and published in the form of estampes." (From Lawrence Saphire, Fernand Leger. The Complete Graphic Work, Blue Moon Press, 1978, p. 286.)
