Karl Wagner was born in Karlsruhe and received his training at the Academy there. He was a versatile artist who produced portraits (including likenesses of German royalty), genre scenes and depictions of the Franco-Prussian War. His most prized genre scenes are painted with a lively, colorful impressionistic palette, as in the present lot.

Condition: minor inpainting spots in sky and in darker areas in lower half, small amount of puckering in canvas in sky.
