| 334. A Persian Kashmar Pictorial Carpet, 20th Century (9 x 13 feet)
The central field woven with a large cartouche medallion comprising other small cartouches and architectural elements, centered by a smaller cartouche woven with four birds. The medallion is extended on two ends by a palmette, and flanked on either side by an oval cartouche centered by a vase and two birds. Each end of the carpet is woven as a landscape,a small mosque in the center with a pond in the foreground, flanked by two birds and columns, both sides woven with an archway with a guard on either side, through which one sees a view of the city. Each corner of the carpet is woven with a vase, other interior ground spaces woven with small animals, all inside a stylized border of palmettes and architectural elements, in red, navy, light blue, creme, green, orange, taupe, brown, and yellow. Wool pile on cotton warp.
