15. Pascal (Pat) Cucaro, (American, born 1915)

Cucaro was born to Italian immigrant parents in 1915 in Youngstown, Ohio. He worked in the circus during his childhood summers where he became fascinated with clowns. In school he was already drawing extensively. After serving in the Second World War, he attended Art School at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco and settled there where he exhibited regularly in the North Beach galleries. He had a one man show at the Butler Institute in Youngstown in 1958. He was nominated for the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1965. He has travelled extensively in China, Greece, Thailand, Israel, Tahiti, Japan, and throughout Europe for his inspiration. A versatile artist, Cucaro has painted a variety of subjects including clowns, crowd scenes, boats and street scenes. He works in a variety of media as well. He presently lives in Marin County, California. His works are in the permanent collections of the Georges Museum of Art, Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences, Allentown Art Museum, and Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery.
