Depicting Shakespeare garbed in a puce cloak, yellow shirt enameled with iron red, puce and blue flowers and turquoise breaches, posed leaning with his elbow on a stack of volumes piled on a column; together with Milton, modeled with flowing black hair, a brown shirt enameled with iron red stylized flowers, iron red breeches, draped with a turquoise and purple cloak, leaning on a column stacked with books, both figures raised on scroll bases, unmarked.
