This is the most comprehensive collection of set designs ever published. The series
contains reproductions from original drawings and watercolors in the
theatre collection of the National Library, Vienna, the Albertina in
Vienna, and other important collections of original theatre material.
The plates in each volume are printed either in full color heightened
with gold and silver and in black and white. All are matted and tipped
in. Each volume has vellum spine and corners, hand-painted marbled
boards, printed label on front cover, and title in black on spine. All
11 volumes lack the original German text pamphlet by Gregor. The two missing volumes in this set are Vol. XI and XIII.
The following are descriptions of each volume:
Vol. I. MASCHERE. [Macarade costumes]. By L. O. Burnacini. Complete 20 prints total. Three prints [3, 4, and 6] individually skrink wrapped.
Vol. II. SZENISCHE ARCHITEKTUREN UND ARCHITEKTUR-PHANTASIEN. [Architecture and Architectural Fantasy in Scene Design]. Complete set of 23 plates in 22 mounts. Reproductions of woodcuts, drawings, sketches, engravings showing architectural scenery, famous spectacles, designs based on Piranesi, Egyptians designs, costumes and actors are shown.
Vol. III. DESSINS [Costume Designs]. By A.D.Bertoli.Complete set of 32 plates. The colored plates are especially well done.
Vol. IV. POMPE FUNEBRE DE S.A.R. CHARLES III. DUC DE LORRAINE. [Funeral Ceremonies for His Royal Highness Charles III, Duke of Lorraine]. Complete set of 13 plates. A
scarce volume, published by R. Piper & Co., Verlag, Munich. Reproduces
the material published at Nancy, France by Blaise Andre.

ALTVLAEMISCHES UND ALTNIEDERLAENDISCHES THEATER. [Early Flemish and Dutch Theatre]. Complete set of 29 plates in 22 mounts. Spectacular color prints of 16th-century costume, 15th-century manuscript showing costume; spectacles, elaborate illuminations of towns, engravings of fireworks displays, processions,drawings of scenes, costume sketches for plays held in the Low Countries 16th-18th Centuries.

Vol. VII. THEATER UND GARTEN. [Theatre and Garden]. 27 plates total. Two plates
(2 and 17] not present. Reproductions of etchings, drawings, etc. mainly of 18th and 19th-century stage scenery and designs featuring formal gardens, woodlands, courtyards, sculpture, and ruins from the famous National Library of Vienna's Albertina and other theatrical collections.
Vol. VIII. GROTESKKOMODIE UND STEGREIFSTUCK [Great Comedians and Improvisational Theatre]. 19 plates total. Plates not
present: 14, 17, 23, 24, 31, 37, 39. Plates 7 and 15 individually
shrink-wrapped. Subjects include marionette figures on display,
18th-century court costumes, blackamoors, Turkish costumes, some with
masks. Other items relate to the Commedia dell'arte characters,
grotesque costume.
Vol. IX. THEATRE DES MITTELALTERS [Theater of the
Middle Ages]. Complete total set of 29 plates in 20 mounts. Plate 22

General condition of the 11 portfolios: A few stains, scratches and general wear to spine and covers, some flaps showing some splitting. Prints themselves in fine condition.
