18th-C. fine Handcolored Engraving of bird with two butterflies. Inscribed and numbered 304 in the plate: The White throated Sparrow, from Pensiluania, and the Yellow Butterfly, from Carrolina. natural size. (Written in reverse) Drawn by George Edwards, October the 24 AD 1758.

Double matted: Actual plate size: 9 1/4" x 7 5/16". Window size: 10 1/2" x 8 3/8". Mat size: 16 1/2" x 14 1/2". George Edwards was an English Naturalist who served as the Librarian of the Royal College of Physicians from 1733. He drew animals for Sir Hans Sloane and was taught by Mark Catesby how to etch the plates for his own books on natural history.
