"I belong to the regiment that belong to Manassas when the rebbles came in on them about three weeks ago. There was three or four companies that fought valiantly and the balance retreated without firing a gun, I belong to a reg that takes care of number one. If there is any chance of running they will never be taken." " I heard of the first Penna cavalry the reg that Will Reid belongs. They are out about 5 miles at halls Cross roads. I am going over to see Will tomorrow if they are there yet. That is said to be the best reg in the service. I would like to belong to that reg. but I am to be promoted whenever I get this reg that I belong to Capt Jenkins is to be my Capt and there is no better man in the world."
