Luca Penni who designed this image was one of the closest followers of Raphael Sanzio of Urbino. Indeed, the influence of one of Raphael's most famous motifs can be felt in this composition of one mature figure bearing another on his shoulders. Such an arrangement occurs on the left side of Raphael's lunette fresco, "Burning of the Borgo" in the Stanza dell'Incendio in the Vatican.
