| 33. Five 18th-Century German Biblical Engravings
Engravers include: Johann Georg Pintz (1697-1767), Georg-Daniel Heuman (1691-1759), and Martin Tyroff (born 1704, and was considered one of the most illustrious German engravers of his time). Each plate titled in Latin and German below image with biblical book, chapter and verse indicated, and inscribed with engraver's name, matted and framed. 12 3/4" x 8 1/4".
The subjects depicted include: I Samuel, Chapter XXVIII, Verse VII (The Witch of Endor); Job, Chapter XXIX, Verse XVIII (Phoenix rising from the ashes); Psalm XIX, Verses 2-7 (Heavens decare the glory of God); Job, Chapter XXXVIII, Verses 4-6 (Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?); and Psalm LVIII, Verses 5-6 (The wicked are likened to the poison of the serpent, and snake charmers).
