5. Addison Thomas Millar, American, 1860-1913

"Siasconset, Nantucket, Mass".
Watercolor, matted and framed.
Signed and titled in ink lower left. 9" x 5 1/2" image size.

Millar was born in Warren, Ohio. He received his first artistic training in Cleveland under De Scott Evans and moved on to New York to the Art Students League and the Shinnecock School where he studied with William Merritt Chase. He became an artist of international reputation after study abroad with Benjamin Constant, the Neo-Impressionist Henry Martin, and Boldini. He exhibited regularly at the National Academy of Design, the Society of American Artists in New York, as well as in Boston and Philadelphia.
