64. After Praxiteles, Greek, circa 370-330 B.C.
"Artemis of Gabii", circa 1890. The classically robed goddess standing, fastening her robe over her shoulder. Bronze with deep brown patina with collas reduction seal. 16" h.
The original marble attributed to Praxiteles is in the collection of The Louvre, Paris. The bronzes were cast in various sizes by both French and German foundries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

With Mary kneeling, carved in the round on the left, Joseph kneeling on the right, centering the infant Jesus, with a cow and donkey observing the scene from behind a wattle fence, two music making angels above, the roof of the manger carved with two beer making monks, a shepherd playing the bagpipe , his sheep, and an angel, fitted in a freestanding carved wood frame and rectangular plinth. 37" x 19" without frame
