148. A Set of Twelve Sevres Dessert Plates, France, circa 1844

Each plate with a bleu celeste rim, gilt and tooled with stylized strapwork and foliage, the reserves finely pained with portraits of famous French courtiers including Mme. de Genlis, Mme. de Parabere, Mme. Royale, Marie de Sovoie, Marie Leczinska, Mme. Dubarry, Mme. de Pompadour, Mme. de Lamballe, Marie Antoinette, Desse de Barry, Mme, Elisabeth, and Mme. Duchatelet, each signed by Morel, the reverse inscribed with each subjects name in black. Stamped in blue with crowned Louis Phillippe mark, stamped in iron red with Chateau de Tuilleries destination mark, and in chrome green, "S37". Note: Destination marks were added to special pieces ordered by the king. 8 7/8" d.
