Walter Blackman was a New York artist who studied in Paris with Gerome. From 1878 he exhibited with the Association des Artistes americains in Paris, and in London at the Royal Academy, Suffolk Street and the Grafton Gallery. This work is characteristic of many of his best efforts, which focus upon pretty women in idealized settings.

Condition: Relined, patch of inpainting in background behind woman's head, two other small patches in background.
