This sweet, silvery marine view was painted by William Edward Norton, an artist who was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was active in Paris, London and New York. Norton trained initially at the Lowell Institute in Boston, and later worked with the noted landscapist George Inness in New York, and Jacquesson de la Chevreuse and Vollon in Paris. His marine paintings won numerous awards, including three gold medals in Boston exhibitions. Condition: Large tear in sky visible, mended by relining. Sky is largely overpainted. Surface soils.
