| 238. An Important Empire Mahogany Commode, Stamped Jacob R. Meslee, circa 1803-1813
The mottled grey marble top over one long and two short frieze drawers above two long drawers, all with gilt bronze wreath, quiver, and arrow escutcheons, with carved walnut female caryatid terms flanking, each ending in a paw foot, raised on bracket feet. Stamped Jacob R. Meslee. This stamp was used by Francois Honore Georges Jacob, called Jacob Desmalter, makers of much of the furnishings for Napoleon's imperial palaces. 35" h., x 47 1/2" w., 22 1/2" d.
