379. A Persian Figural Carpet, Possibly Ferahan, early 20th Century

The central field woven with three figures, possibly depicting royalty, in traditional dress. The top figure on horseback with a crown, the two lower figures looking at each other, with right arms straight down, left arms resting on the stomach, and feet all pointing right. The background is woven in the center with a stylized palmette surrounded by smaller flowers, birds, and a single larger zoomorphic figure. In the central lower portion is an oddly placed woven arm and hand, all inside a primary border of stylized flowers and serrated leaves, all in cream, midnight blue, navy, yellow, and salmon. Wool pile on cotton warp. 36" x 59".
