414. A Caucasian Carpet, mid 20th Century

The central field woven with two large diamonds with hook borders, the center of each woven with four subtle diamonds, all in a field of stylized flowers nad animals, inside diamond and half-diamond borders, all in red, white, navy, green, orange, and medium blue. Wool pile on wool warp. 46" x 64".

415. A Caucasian Kazak Carpet, early to mid 20th Century

The central field woven with three large connecting diamonds, each centered by a simple hook medallion. Each diamond is bordered by hook motifs, all in a field of stylized flowers, flanked on either side by a zig-zag line that runs the length of the central field, bordered by hook motifs, inside two primary borders, the first with serrated leaves and triangles, the second woven as a meandering border on the long sides, one end border woven with X and # motifs, and the other end border with a flower and cartouche pattern, all in pinkish red, creme, orange, medium blue, and brown. Wool pil on wool warp. 58" x 88".

The central field woven with three losenges surrounded by various hook, arrow, and flower motifs, all inside diamond and flower pattern borders, all in dark red, creme, navy, medium blue, rust, and muted yellow. Wool pile on cotton warp. 68" x 88".

The center woven with two octagonal medallions with serrated edges bordered by serrated leaves and a conforming border, in a field of stylized feathers, all inside a primary border of octagons centered by flowers, all in creme, navy, salmon, teal, and medium blue. The central field woven with three connecting medallions with stepped borders, each centered by a square with a stylized arrow projecting from each side of the square, inside numerous borders, the primary border with "Z" motifs, all in brown, creme, dark green, and marigold. 419. A Turkoman Juval, early 20th Century

The central rectangle woven with alternating guls, inside numerous narrow borders of geometric motifs, all above a wide strip woven with lines of geometric motifs, all in cranberry, tomato, black, and hints of creme. Wool pile on wool warp. 32" x 56".

420. A Turkoman Tekke Carpet, 19th Century

The central field woven with three rows of traditional large guls alternating with smaller guls, inside various borders woven with traditional Turkoman patterning, all in dark red, white, navy, hunter green, and marigold. Wool pile on wool warp. 44" x 54".

Note: Gul means "flower" in Persian. The varying shapes and designs of guls usually reflect a tribal origin.

Made from what was originally a large bag, woven with traditional guls inside borders of stylized flowers and hook motifs, all in grayish-brown, red, creme, navy, and rose. Wool pile, pillow backing is flat woven in wool. 24" x 40".
