576. A Wonderful Teak and Mother of Pearl Etagere, China, Late 19th Century

Finely crafted, the upper portion surmounted by a carved dragon, his tail extending through the pediment, over a pierced gallery above a pair of paneled doors, each panel with a delicate mother of pearl inlay depicting a garden scene, a shelf with fretwork flanking each side, raised on carved supports with a paneled back similarly inlaid. The lower portion, with engraved detailing of bamboo and chrysanthemum, monogrammed, over two frieze drawers each with mother of pearl inlay depicting gourds, vines, and butterflies raised on Buddhist lion heads terminating in paw feet, with a solid engraved paneled back supported by a rectangular molded base with a shapely apron raised on scrolling bracket feet.
