An icon depicting "Dormition of the Mother of God" (The Assumption. Mary is shown lying on her deathbed surrounded by the Apostles and Christ receiving Mary's soul in her arms, surrounded by the Mandorla Six Winged Angels, representing heavenly virtues. Thew company also includes two bishops. In the upper center is a small representation of The Assumption. In the center foreground is an armed angel and Athonios who dared to touch the funeral couch. Oil on wood panel with gold leaf. 12 1/4", 10 1/4", 3/4" d.
