The flared form applied with a repousse and chased crowned double-headed eagle on recto, the verso elaborately engraved with art nouveau style scrolling foliage centering a large oval faceted amethyst, surmounted by a swivel strap handle raised over four stylized scroll legs, bearing hallmarks. 7" d., 5" d.

Decorated with eight enamel plaques (finiftis) depicting scenes from the life of Christ, each bordered by faceted rock crystals, the upper part of the chalice engraved in Russian "Taste the Body of Christ and Receive Eternal Life", the pronounced base decorated with four plaques showing the Last Supper, the Entombment, Christ Carrying the Christ, and Christ in Prayer. 14 1/2" h.

10. An Important Silver Gilt Reliquary, by Vasili Agaphonov, Moscow, Russia, 1892
Of architectural form, the top shaped as an onion dome surmounted by a trefled cross (see Postnikova-Loseva, Moscow, "Nauka", 1983, #2273-2274), raised over four similar pinnacles, each arched side engraved with Christ Pantocrator, Lord Sabaoth, and the All Seeing Eye of God, the middle of the reliquary applied with a Crucifiction figure and coffin, its lid engraved with Christ, each side of the base decorated in repousse with Christ in Prayer, the Deposition from the Cross, and Christ within an interior, raised on four bracket feet with a pierced strapwork apron, hallmarked. 30 1/2" h.

The kovsh with a repousse in high relief of the double-headed Russian Imperial eagle on the front, the bottom and sides similarly decorated with a stylized foliate design, the handle inset with a rouble coin dated to 1728, engraved "The Petrograd Douma to General Sir Henry Wilson, February 4/17 1917", stamped with town and makers marks (see Postnikova-Loseva, page 181, #1250-1251). 13" l., 6 3/4" w., 14.3 ozt.
