Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923- ), Canadian abstract painter, sculptor, and graphic artist. Born in Montréal, where he studied art, moved to Paris in 1946. Riopelle's canvases are painted improvisations. After 1950, he squeezed thick strips of paint from the tube, building up mosaic-like patterns of brilliant intensity that also included large areas of white, which create a free, spacious effect. Signed, Limited Edition of 150. Color lithographs and black & white photographic illustrations. Also includes a folded 24.5" x 30.75" lithograph.

No. 656 of 1000 copies. Green textured boards with gilt design of a half woman/half beast to cover. Fourteen reproduction illustrations in color, sixteen in black and white featuring nude women in an Elizabethan drama theme of mankind. Titles include "Homage to Balzac", "Don Juan", "Pilgrimage to Venus" and "Ladies from Olympus". Norman Lindsay (1879-1969) is arguably one of Australia's greatest artists. He worked in all media - etching, pencil, charcoal, pen and ink and wash drawings, watercolours, oil paintings and sculpture. There are more books by him, about him or illustrated by him than any other Australian artist. Norman Lindsay is represented in every major Australian gallery.
