The image is of Louis XIV and subjects at the Tuilleries, which burned in 1871 and later became two wings of the Louvre. Silvestre's tremendous facility as an etcher led him to be chosen personally by King Louis XIV of France to realize a number of important suites of prints including the "Courses de testes et de bagues" to which the present lot belongs.
