596. A Set of Four George I Mahogany Dining Chairs, Irish, circa 1720

The incurved crestrial carved with a foliate scroll, over a vasiform back splat with scroll carved center, over shaped slip seats raised on cabriole legs carved with a cartouche at the knees, ending in ball and claw feet.

Provenance: the chairs in the present lot were a gift from the Mellon family to the family of the present owners.

Condition:

Chair 1: seat rail left corner missing V shaped piece, repaired stile near legs both sides, repaired back splate; and split near joint of right side of seat rail.

Chair 2: s shrinkage; split to seat rail on right corner and back side; repair to leg near seat rail right side, and replaced section to small left portion of seat rail.

Chair 3; repaired crest rail; loss of bracket to left leg; seat rail molding missing 2" on left side repaired on right side; repair to right corner of the seat rail; and repair to lower portion of back splate.

Chair 4: shrinkage; newer corner bracket interior support, crest rail by left stile missing small piece and repaired; possible replaced scroll on crest rail 1" in; and backs plate repaired midway.
