883. A Persian Meshed Pictorial Carpet, 20th Century

The central cartouche medallion enclosing a smaller similar cartouche woven with four birds, the larger cartouche ground woven with smaller cartouches, one on each side and a gate guard at each corner, the entire medallion extended at two ends by a palmette and flanked on either side by an oval medallion centering an urn and two birds all in a field of iimages depicting life, possibly paradise( the afterlife) including urns, birds, hilly landscapes, and archways flanked by columns and gate guards woven with a view of a palace, all surrounded by a primary border of cypresses, birds, palmettes, hanging gardens, and opposing animals, all in red, blue, creme, yellow, green, navy, medium brown, and pink. Wool pile on cotton warp.
